RIDING & HERITAGE HEROES

We did it! We hit our Crowfunder target of £3,000 plus we bagged another £521 on top - and we couldn't have done it without our Riding & Heritage Heroes. More than 50 supporters donated to our campaign, but the following people donated over £20 making them Bodmin Legends, so we're telling the world how brilliant they are! Here are our generous supporters, in all their glory as Riding & Heritage Heroes! â€‹

Our crowdfunder

The Bodmin Riding Festival is the most important date in Bodmin's Calendar. It's a celebration of Bodmin's unique identity: its important role in Cornish history, its wonderful community, and its brilliant future.

This is Bodmin's festival, and we want you to have ownership of it. We've been listening to what you want and if this Crowdfunder is successful, we'll make it happen.

In 2018 Bodmin’s Riding & Heritage Day didn't go ahead, and we, along with the community of Bodmin, were devastated. This ancient festival deserves to be celebrated each year with all the excitement, vibrancy and joy with which our ancestors celebrated it - and we want to make that happen again!

We're the new committee, the Busy Rebels, and we have promised to bring Bodmin Riding back - bigger and better than before - and that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

We want the Bodmin Riding Festival to be free, welcoming, and accessible for all the community. It's your festival as much as it is ours, so donate now and help us to make it something really amazing!  We want to make sure that Bodmin is recognised as the vibrant and beautiful place that it is, and that its unique history and special place in Cornwall’s heart is not forgotten for generations to come.

Already we’re in talks with numerous groups, organisations and businesses who are all eager to get involved and support the Bodmin Riding Festival 2019 - but we can't do it without you! The more support we have the better the festival will be.

We estimate that a festival on this scale will cost around £5,000 to run. This includes 3 days of festivities and a series of community workshops leading up to the event which will be open to anyone, free of charge. If we reach our target we can make all of these things happen and more. If we exceed our target, the additional money will go towards making the Bodmin Riding Festival bigger and better in 2020 and beyond.

We've a fabulous team of individuals on board this year, we're absolutely committed to making this happen - but there is lots to be done and we can only do it with your support.

This is Bodmin's unique legacy and we can't let it die. Support us now and you'll be playing your part in the survival of something spectacular!

What is Bodmin Riding?

Bodmin Riding is a Cornish festival which takes place on the first weekend of July each year. It’s a celebration of the unique history of Bodmin, our Cornish identity and our community. Festivities include the ancient tradition of the floral garlands, the procession of St Petroc’s bones, the Riding Ale and the Trial of the Beast of Bodmin!  You can find out more, here.

Did you know...?

Bodmin Riding is so ancient that we don't even know where it began? It was an ancient event in 1469, the first time it was recorded on paper. Like Padstow's Mayday, it's a unique celebration of a place and its people, and through it, we intend to keep the rich traditions of our Cornish heritage alive.
